Several small airlines operating charters, specialty flights, and professional team flights are based at Bush IAH and Hobby airports in Houston. The fuel tanks of their commercial airplanes are lined with polyurethane protective foam, designed and installed to mitigate the effects of fuel vapor. When the foam fails the plane is grounded. The foam is pieced together within the fuel tank and is removed piece at a time by the airplane manufacturer over several days and each piece is bagged and stored for remediation or disposal.
This occurred for one of Storage Trailers, LLC’s clients at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, who required a 53-foot storage trailer. The swing door fifty-three-foot dry van semi-trailer was ordered and delivered same day, a common occurrence for Storage Trailers, LLC. The dock high design made our storage trailer a perfect solution to their short-term storage requirements. It allowed for on site storage with the trailer staged nearby while the plane remained on the tarmac.
Once pieces of foam were removed and bagged, they were stored inside the 53-foot dry van semi-trailer, which provided dry, secure storage. While much of our equipment is utilized at distribution center warehouses, manufacturing warehouses, and import companies this was Storage Trailer, LLC’s first remediation client, but not our last.
